I’m based in Las Vegas, Nevada. My passion for the desert long precedes my passion for photography. Art is in my blood, along with a life time of art education and a degree in Graphic Design from the Las Vegas Art Institute. And then one day I was gifted a camera and my desert passion and love for art exploded through the lens! Yes, I call the desert my home and first love but I’m a wanderer at heart. And now I’m constantly on the road to my next adventure. I spend sleepless nights chasing the vibrant colors of desert landscapes and the distant glow of the Milky Way. I’m also captured by new and varying ecosystems. And, I’m especially fascinated with life in extreme environments.
My photography is driven by a desire to hunt for and photograph extraordinary moments and scenes in nature. I’m drawn to expansive landscapes and astro photography. The whole process of the hunt delights me! Including research and scouting potential locations, challenging off road adventures and hikes into the wilderness, discovering the perfect composition, constructing just the right light and perspective, and creating a final visual representation that is natural and vibrant. I’m very proud to belong to the Sony Alpha Imaging Collective as a Sony Alpha Brand Ambassador. Currently my primary camera is the Sony A7riii full frame digital mirrorless.
I invite you to follow my adventures on Instagram @MissJessBess and join in the conversation!

My home is Scottsdale, Arizona. I love to tell a story with my pictures. I have enjoyed photography for most of my life, chronicling events in my life that include my children, family and friends. At one point I was producing video stories with still photographs and video. None of the visual content was mine. So with a desire to produce my own work I bought a new camera, enrolled in a school of photography and learned how to take professional pictures and use photo/video editing programs and video production programs. Receiving a certificate I started producing motion graphic stories with my own photography.
After an education from many exceptional photographers willing to share their craft, I now see the world in new and inspiring ways. First I’m drawn creatively to light and composition. And I love to capture unexpected moments. And in those moments I use the equipment I have available. I do some preparation based on location and time but I’m open to a scene or idea that presents itself. Texture, color and light will attract my attention and then a sudden impulsive emotion will pull me into the scene and develop the story. So my work becomes broad and diverse but stays true to telling a story in the moment. I love adventure and seeking out venues to explore and be inspire. Indoor or outdoor is good. I also love capturing the simplicity and beauty of everyday life. Therefore I always have my camera with me ready to catch the unanticipated.
My primary camera is the Nikon D750 full frame digital. I have a variety of lenses, my favorites are 35mm and 200mm. I am currently dabbling in iPhone photography. This is very new and fun.

I spend my time on the shore and out in the surf of the California coastline. I’m a native Californian and a local of Huntington Beach. I fell in love with photography in high school and continue my education in college. I love the ocean, waves and surfers. Early morning and late evening draw me to the shore and out into the surf. The power and beauty of the ocean exhilarate me. My passion is awakened when capturing the awe inspiring perfect curl of that barrel or the strength and spirit of the lone surfer welcoming the power of his adversary while finding that dangerous rhythm.
Working hard to capture that epic image is stimulating and I have my own distinct desire and approach. I’m driven to discover a new angle and imagine a new composition. I focus on using my creativity and vision by finding the unexpected, unusual, and unforgettable. I also find my inspiration interacting with all the amazing people that live this great adventure with me and those that come to watch. I’m humbled to have had my photography featured in numerous magazines. And very proud to have theWorld Surf League (WSL) ask me to shoot the 2019 US Open of Surfers this August.
I photograph with my Cannon and I have a variety of lenses. I am also learning a great deal about post production and honing my skills working with images that express motion and natural color.
